NBA Daily Digest: Spurs Force Game 7 Tonight, Jalen Williams Out

The Western Conference Finals are now a winner-take-all series. San Antonio blew out Oklahoma City 118-91 in Game 6 on Thursday night to force a Game 7, and the deciding game tips tonight at Paycom Center — without one of OKC's best players.

San Antonio's season-saving performance was never really in doubt. The Spurs made eight 3-pointers in the first quarter alone, and by the time Victor Wembanyama (SF/C, San Antonio Spurs) logged a third triple in the opening eight minutes, the Thunder were already chasing a 33-22 deficit. 1

Wembanyama finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 28 minutes — resting for the final stretch once the game was settled. He shot 4-of-9 from three and did most of his damage before the defense collapsed. The critical number was his plus/minus: the Thunder were outscored by 28 while he played.

The turning point came early in the third quarter. The Spurs ran off a 20-0 run — including 11 unanswered points with Wembanyama sitting on the bench — that pushed the lead from 65-60 to 85-64 and forced an OKC timeout. Oklahoma City was held scoreless for 7:27 of game clock during that stretch. The Thunder shot 37.2% for the game and 25% from three (10-of-40). 2

San Antonio's young backcourt stepped up around Wembanyama. Dylan Harper (SG/SF, Spurs), the rookie, had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench. Stephon Castle (PG/SG, Spurs), who had combined for 20 turnovers in the first two games of the series, finished with 17 points, nine assists and only one giveaway. Devin Vassell (SG/SF, Spurs) added 12 points shooting 4-of-7 from three.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (PG, OKC Thunder) was held to 15 points on 6-of-18 shooting — only the second time this postseason he finished under 20. He finished minus-28. Jalen Williams (SF, OKC Thunder) returned from a three-game absence due to his hamstring strain, played 10 minutes off the bench, and scored one point.

The big injury news arrived after Game 6: Jalen Williams has been ruled out for Game 7. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Williams reaggravated his left hamstring following Thursday's game and will miss his third start of the series. OKC center Ajay Mitchell (C, OKC Thunder) is also out for Game 7. 3

OKC coach Mark Daigneault will need Gilgeous-Alexander to respond after two subpar shooting nights — SGA averaged 19 points on 38% in the two home-court losses. The defending champions have won each of their home games this series. San Antonio, meanwhile, has won every game in San Antonio and every game in Oklahoma City (across WCF Game 1 and now Game 6). The pattern of road wins has been a consistent theme.

The winner faces the New York Knicks, who have been idle since sweeping Cleveland on May 26. Game 1 of the NBA Finals is Wednesday, June 3 at 8:30 PM ET on ABC, with the Knicks serving as the home team at Madison Square Garden regardless of opponent. 4

Mitchell Robinson plans to play in NBA Finals Game 1. The Knicks backup center (C, New York Knicks) broke his right pinkie finger and underwent surgery. ESPN's Shams Charania reported Friday that Robinson plans to be available for Game 1 on June 3. Coach Mike Brown said the injury occurred outside of a game or practice and declined to provide further details. Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game this regular season and 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13 playoff games this postseason. 5

Orlando Magic to waive Jonathan Isaac. The Magic are expected to waive forward Jonathan Isaac (PF/SF, Orlando Magic), who has three years and $44 million remaining on his contract. Per NBA insider Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, Orlando intends to stretch the $8 million cap hit rather than trade him, with Paolo Banchero's max extension creating a cash crunch. Isaac appeared in 52 games this season, averaging 2.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in around 10 minutes per game. The Magic also finalized the hire of San Antonio Spurs associate coach Sean Sweeney as their new head coach, per Shams Charania. 6

Cavaliers end-of-season media availability. Cleveland president Koby Altman met with reporters on Thursday following the Cavaliers' elimination. Donovan Mitchell (PG/SG, Cleveland Cavaliers) enters the final year of his contract in 2026-27. Key offseason questions include Carlos Boozer's reported retirement and whether Cleveland pursues a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo (PF, Milwaukee Bucks), though early reports suggest the Cavaliers are unlikely to trade Evan Mobley as the centerpiece of any such deal. 7
